‘Where does a doodle go?’ Position, content, narrative (lights, camera, action)

The work assembles and reassembles snippets of choreography that emerge and re-emerge as both cohesive and chaotic, the chance moment of movements in and out of synchronicity between the pre-recorded images, improvised movement and the live camera feed capture. The performer moves between ‘real time’ and ‘mediated time’. Appearing and reappearing in search of a narrative, questioning where a starting point leads to, repetition inducing an unbearable claustrophobia caught for ‘real’ in the spotlight.

Julia Griffin, is a freelance dance artist and filmmaker based in Manchester. She has collaborated on small to large-scale projects with, visual artists, musicians, photographers, video and sound artists, leading choreographers and film directors. Previous collaborations include Emilyn Claid, David Massingham, Earl Lloyd Hepburn, Siobhan Davies, Hans Tuerling, the late Lea Parkinson, Penny Arcade, Julie Tollentino, Katherine Dawson, Pete Purdy, Lawrence Turnball, Black Grape and the late Jeremy James. Her work has been screened on BBC 1’s ‘OK 2 TALK FEELINGS’, BBC’s 10×10: ‘NIGHTFRONTIER’, MTV, Granada TV ‘Best of the Fest’. Short film and installations include; TWISTED COLLISION’S award winning ‘TREADING WATER’, ‘Golden Day Waltzing’ intergenerational dance film commissioned by Heritage Lottery and choreography for Rachel Davies film installation ‘The Assembly’ for Manchester International Festival.

Performer and choreographer Jean-Hughes Miredin has been working with Contact Improvisation for the past 7 years and instant composition and improvisation as performing art form for the past 4 years.
Since 2007 he is working on improvisation and performance with Charlie Morrissey and Adrian Russi. They are known as the “Moving Men”.
Now and Then is his second study on solo improvisation.

Scott Smith teaches, makes dance and music, performs, works in mixed ability groups, and collaborates. He worked in NYC with dance companies, and eventually moved to an island near Seattle to work as a landscaper, research movement and practice music. He now lives near London where he teaches movement, as well as making performance and providing music for performance and video.



This Headlight Is The Only Hope In The Dark
a one-to-one interactive performance by Mamoru Iriguchi

An audience member joins Mamoru’s adventure in the imaginary pitch-black as his temporary lover. Only the light of the projector mounted on his safety helmet sheds some light on the intimate events ahead of them.

Mamoru is originally trained as a zoologist, then secondly as a theatre designer. He is also a self-taught performance maker.
His theatre design work includes Mincemeat (Cardboard Citizens, Best Design Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2009), The Wind in the Willows (Open Air Theatre Regents Park) and The Pink Bits (Mapping4D, Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Awards).
With the extended knowledge in designing space for performance and broad interests including 2D and 3D, gender and sexuality, parasitism and symbiosis, and fairytales and evolution theories, Mamoru started his own performance projects a few years ago. His two solo pieces Pregnant?! and Into the Skirt have been shown internationally in countries including UK, Germany, Ireland and USA.
He is a member of an artists’ peer-support group ‘Not Balloon’ supported by Artsadmin.
